The CEO of AI startup Perplexity says the technology could replace recruiters and assistants in companies within the next six months to a year.
According to The Verge, Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity, has a bold and striking vision for the future of work. He says that using a simple prompt can automate many professional roles, and as a result, AI could replace various positions such as company recruiters and assistants.
Perplexity’s CEO Says AI Will Replace Many Corporate Roles
Srinivas stated: “What a recruiter does over the course of a week can be done with a single prompt: finding talent and reaching out to them.” This prediction not only defines the role of Perplexity’s new browser, Comet, but also serves as a warning to many people currently employed in different corporate functions.
For years, AI developers have promised not to replace humans, but to assist them. However, Srinivas paints a picture of a future in which human labor is replaced by much more capable assistants. He describes AI agents as tools that can “complete any workflow from start to finish: from receiving instructions to completing the task.”
He adds: “I’m almost certain that within six months to a year, this technology will be able to do all of these jobs.” This shows that the shift is not some abstract, distant concept, but rather an imminent reality that could transform entire departments before the end of next year.
Although the AI-powered Comet browser cannot yet fully perform the most complex, long-term tasks, Srinivas believes the final barriers will soon fall. He bases his timeline on the imminent arrival of the next generation of AI.
He says: “I’m counting on the advancement of reasoning models to get us there.” Srinivas also points to future models such as GPT-5 and Claude 4.5. The Perplexity CEO believes these next-gen AI brains will be the ultimate driving force behind fully integrated, seamless automation.
