Google is bringing a smarter experience to Samsung smartwatches by integrating Gemini, its advanced AI, into Wear OS—offering far more than a simple voice assistant.
After announcing Gemini for Wear OS, Google has now officially begun rolling out this AI assistant to smartwatches. Gemini replaces Google Assistant on Wear OS and, just like its mobile counterpart, supports voice and conversational commands. One of the most exciting aspects is the ability to use Gemini extensions and apps directly on the watch, making complex tasks much easier to manage.
To activate Gemini, users can say “Hey Google,” hold down the side button on the Samsung smartwatch, or tap the Gemini app icon on the watch face. The interface launches with Gemini’s distinctive logo and a colorful animation that turns blue when processing commands. Responses can be delivered in text, image, or audio formats.
Gemini can now perform actions like sending messages, providing recipes, recalling information such as where you parked your car, and managing calendar events. You can also ask it to summarize emails, give you directions, or create a workout playlist on YouTube Music.
To enjoy full functionality of Gemini on your Samsung smartwatch, you must first activate the desired apps in the “Apps” section of the Gemini app on your phone. The public rollout of this feature will take place over the coming weeks for smartwatches running Wear OS 4 and above, from brands like Pixel Watch, Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, and others. Additionally, Wear OS 6 will offer improved support for brand-specific apps.
